This section of the digital exhibit accentuates the religious component of French culture in North America. A heavily Christian, and specifically Catholic, perspective and emphasis is evident throughout the Mallet Collection, from the books on early missionary work with Native Americans to the biographies and narrative accounts of saints, religious figures, and leaders of the Catholic Church. The rich history of the establishment of the Catholic Church in North America, especially in Canada and New France, pays tribute to founders of religious orders, brave missionaries, and martyrs who were killed (some by Native Americans) for their causes and their beliefs.
